Our Story
Flux is a family owned electrical business that has been on the Sunshine Coast since 2010. Matt started it as a sole trader that year, and Flux Electrical Systems Pty Ltd (ABN 38 160 345 095) has traded under that name since November 2012. It started small and it stayed deliberately close to its roots: Matt Ottley on the tools, a local team, and work that gets stood behind. Today we work out of Unit 3/46 Enterprise St, Kunda Park.
The idea for it came while Matt was subcontracting for a solar company. He was doing the installs, watching the industry take off, and realised there was a better way to do it. Go direct to clients, cut out the middle layer, and build a business that actually stood behind the work.
More than 15 years later, Flux is still what it started as: a family owned local business, not a franchise or a sales operation with a call centre somewhere else. Matt still runs the business, and the electricians are in-house. The people who come to your property to quote the job are the same kind of people who install it. That changes the conversation. They understand the existing wiring, they can see what will and will not work with your current setup, and they will tell you honestly if something does not make sense for your situation.
Being local matters in this industry more than people realise. We know the Energex processes in this region because we deal with them every week. We know the local network conditions. And when you call after the install, you get us, not a support queue. Most of the work we do is solar and battery, and a lot of it is not straightforward. We are the team people call when the job involves an existing system, unusual wiring, or infrastructure that needs to be worked around properly. We also handle the Energex application process and can guide clients through the energy retailer side of things, which most installers leave the customer to figure out alone.

Meet the Team
These are the people who quote, install and answer the phone. No call centre, no subcontracted install crews.
Matt
Director / Electrician
Matt runs operations and does a share of the estimating, so your quote is checked by someone who has installed hundreds of these systems. He still gets on the tools, particularly for existing systems or unusual wiring.
He finished his apprenticeship in 2009 and has been installing solar since the early days of the industry in Australia. He also deals with Energex most weeks, so when a job needs an application or a network approval, it goes through someone who knows the process.
Chad
Estimator / Electrician
Chad is the one who comes out to look at your switchboard, roof and existing wiring, works out what will actually suit your place, and puts the quote together. If you read our Google reviews, you'll see his name come up a lot.
In his spare time he catches prowlers. In July 2026 Chad made a citizen's arrest outside a neighbour's house on the Sunshine Coast and held the man until police arrived. A Current Affair covered it.
Alex
Lead electrician
Alex runs the install crew on site. Once the system is commissioned, he's the one who walks you through how it works and gets the monitoring app set up before the team leaves.
In our Google reviews, Alex gets mentioned for the same two things every time: the workmanship and how tidy the crew leaves the place. He has led jobs that combine new panels, a battery and an EV charger in a single visit.
Seth
Apprentice electrician
Seth is part of the install crew alongside Alex and Daniel, and is usually the one on the roof.
Daniel
Apprentice electrician
Daniel is part of the install crew. Panels, batteries, switchboards, and leaving the place tidy when the job is done.
Mitch
Estimating / TA
Mitch works on estimating with Matt and Chad, and is a trade assistant on the install crew.
How We Work
What you can expect when you work with Flux
We Tell You What We Think
If a system is not right for your setup, we will say so. We have lost jobs that way and we are fine with that. A recommendation that is honest is worth more than one that just wins the quote.
No Cheap Products
We do not install substandard equipment to win a job on price. The products we quote are what we would put in our own homes. There is no lower-cost alternative that trades on quality.
After-Sales Support
The job does not end at installation. We provide after-sales support and can guide clients through the Energex process and energy retailer side of things, not just the physical install.
Family Owned and Local
Flux is family owned and has been based on the Sunshine Coast since 2010. Our electricians are in-house, not subcontracted out to whoever is available. When you deal with Flux you are dealing with the people whose name is on the work.
Qualifications & Accreditation
Matt holds a Certificate III in Electrotechnology, a Certificate IV in Electrical, and a Certificate III in Refrigeration. He completed his apprenticeship in 2009 and has been working in solar installation since the early years of the industry in Australia.
